Yantao Mao, Ju Ling · Journal of Cases on Information Technology · 2025

In contemporary art and design education, traditional methods relying on two-dimensional presentations restrict students' spatial perception and creativity, offering limited practical opportunities. Meanwhile, the rise of virtual reality (VR) technology has transformed multiple sectors with its immersive and interactive capabilities. This study explores the innovative application of VR in art and design education, examining its technical principles, unique characteristics, and suitability for educational purposes. Integrating VR into course instruction, practical projects, and interdisciplinary collaborations enhances students' spatial perception, creativity, and practical skills, leading to improved learning outcomes and more innovative final projects. Despite challenges such as mastering new technologies and ensuring equitable access, educators have successfully adapted their teaching methods to incorporate VR.
