A modulus 11 check digit system for a given system of codes

Abstract When a new coding scheme is being designed, it is easy to incorporate a modulus 11 check digit in each code, to provide protection against recording errors. Traditionally, it is only when a new coding scheme is being designed that this is possible. This paper presents a proposal to provide modulus 11 check digit protection to existing codes.
