Organizations are increasingly recognizing the benefits of cloud computing and are beginning to implement it, though challenges with security, performance, and availability persist. Among the various risks associated with cloud environments, distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks stand out as a significant concern for businesses and service providers. In this section, we review existing literature on DDoS attacks in the Cloud and highlight essential metrics for developing effective defences. Additionally, we introduce a novel taxonomy for classifying DDoS attacks. As organizations become more receptive to adopting cloud computing, they also face issues related to its security, performance, and availability. Security concerns, in particular, are paramount for businesses and cloud service providers. DDoS attacks pose the greatest threat to cloud environments. This chapter discusses the current academic research regarding DDoS attacks in the cloud environment, and important parameters for mitigation are highlighted. The chapter also presents a new framework for the classification of DDoS attacks.
