Key factors in TQM implementation for the construction industry

Pranav Korat, Jaydeep Pipaliya, Darshit R. Shah · IET conference proceedings. · 2025

The construction industry is continuously plagued by cost overruns, project delays, and quality deficiencies, and effective quality management strategies are therefore needed. Total Quality Management (TQM) has been found to be a very powerful methodology for improving construction project performance through continuous improvement, stakeholder collaboration, and systematic process optimization. However, TQM implementation in construction is challenging because of the industry's fragmented nature, diverse project requirements, and dynamic work environments. This paper will determine and validate some of the significant factors affecting the implementation of TQM in construction projects and their impact on the outcomes of a project through Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The study is structured by first reviewing the literature to establish critical factors; second, expert assessment for validation; and third, the ANOVA approach to assess their influence on project outcomes. The present study investigates the relationship between TQM factors and construction project performance through statistical analysis.
