The decision frame is the lens that we use to view the decision problem or opportunity. A good decision frame is critical to decision quality. Creating a good decision frame is the first task that a decision professional should undertake in any decision process. Decision framing tools include the vision statement, the stakeholder issue identification matrix, the decision hierarchy, and the influence diagram. Inadequate or poor framing is an all-too-common cause of failure to achieve good decision. Examples are provided from professional practice including the use of decision analysis framing tools for an analytics project.
