Precision Code Converter for the Reciprocals of Binary Numbers

K.J. Dean · ITNOW · 1968

The physical size of electronic circuits has decreased to such an extent that the minimum size of a piece of equipment in the fields of instrumentation and computing is determined not by the circuitry within it but by its input connexions, controls and output display. For these reasons it has been suggested [1, 2] that the size of equipment will not become much smaller in the near future. Instead its complexity will rise to take up the space available for it. There is thus an increasing interest in the development of special purpose function generators and code converters for use in such equipment. One of these is intended to convert a number, available in binary code, into its reciprocal. Some applications of such a sub-system include direct conversion from a time interval to a velocity, and from the rate of flow of a liquid in a tube to its viscosity.
