Edge-cloud continuum integrates edge and cloud computing to facilitate secure and efficient data processing. It consists of local edge, edge, and cloud computing tiers. As the healthcare sector is rapidly incorporating new technologies, utilizing edge-cloud continuum for healthcare is an emerging research field. The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) includes connected medical devices and applications for transmitting and processing medical data. A key challenge is finding the right balance between energy efficiency and security, as both are essential for good Quality of Service (QoS). Because of the lack of resources, especially at local edge devices, performance degradation may occur when the security algorithms handle security threats. Profiling the energy consumption caused by security attacks and defense mechanisms is crucial to validate the energy efficiency of proposed security solutions. However, there is limited research that quantifies the energy impact of such mechanisms, particularly in the context of healthcare networks. This research focuses on providing an energy consumption analysis of Denial of Service (DoS) attacks and mitigation mechanisms when defending against DoS attacks.
