Rapid globalization and increasing interconnectivity have made it almost essential for people to learn languages other than their native tongue to keep pace with modern times. With this comes the need to teach people these foreign languages at a scale unmatched by any period in the past. The study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the NAO Robot as a language instructor. The study was designed to randomly assign 90 participants into three groups, each with either a human, NAO, or mobile application as the instructor. All participants took a pre-session and a post-session test before and after their sessions. The change in their scores was obtained and analyzed, along with their responses on a post-session questionnaire. The results indicate that participants taught by the NAO robot had a higher mean score than the other learning processes. The differences in mean change in scores were statistically significant, 𝐹 (2, 87) = 49.56,𝑝 < 0.01.The mean scores were in the order of Robot-Led Learning (RLL) doing better than Human-Led Learning (HLL), which outperformed App-Led Learning (ALL).Our findings indicate that robots can be a competent alternative or complement * All authors contributed equally to this research.
