Society 5.0 envisions a future where technology seamlessly integrates the digital and physical realms to enhance human life, with Human-Centered AI at its core, aiming to augment human capabilities and well-being. Neurosymbolic AI, a pivotal element of Society 5.0, combines neural networks with symbolic reasoning, departing from traditional rule-based AI. This chapter elucidates Neurosymbolic AI’s foundations, principles, applications, ethics, and future prospects, emphasizing its role in prioritizing user preferences and aligning with human-centered design principles. Noteworthy is Neurosymbolic AI’s cognitive connection, bridging neural networks’ pattern recognition with symbolic reasoning’s logic and abstraction, as showcased through various case studies. Across sectors like healthcare, education, smart cities, and industry 4.0, Neurosymbolic AI promises revolutionary applications while addressing ethical concerns such as data privacy and bias mitigation.
