Introduction to Bluetooth and Wi‐Fi in Healthcare

John Chirillo · 2025

This chapter investigates how Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are further evolving modern healthcare. Through real-world examples, it shows how artificial intelligence (AI) tools quickly pinpoint the root causes of complex issues. AI's ability to connect the dots in vast datasets is essential in ensuring the safety and efficiency of wireless healthcare environments. Bluetooth is used in medical devices like health monitors, sensors, and fitness wearables today. Two primary types of Bluetooth are essential in healthcare: Bluetooth Classic and Bluetooth Low Energy. Smartwatches, fitness trackers, and wearable ECG monitors use Bluetooth to send vital health data to smartphones, tablets, or cloud-based platforms. This allows for continuous monitoring and timely health interventions. Wi-Fi's versatility plays a critical role in enabling a variety of essential healthcare functions. It connects smart medical devices to centralized systems, allowing healthcare providers to monitor patient vitals in real time and respond quickly to emergencies.
