Exploring the Integration of Biometric Technologies in the Macedonian Banking Sector: A Qualitative Study

The adoption of biometric technologies in the banking sector in Macedonia is in its nascent stages, with implementations such as fingerprint authentication in mobile banking apps beginning to emerge. This research explores the potential and challenges of integrating biometric technologies within Macedonian banks. Through qualitative analysis, this study gathers insights from interviews with key stakeholders, including bank managers and IT professionals responsible for the financial software. The interviews focus on assessing the convenience and impact of biometrics on banking operations and consumer experience and identifying privacy and security risks. The perspectives of banking representatives and IT sector experts shed light on the benefits and drawbacks of biometric implementation. Data are analyzed using a combination of thematic, sentiment, and content analysis to extract recurring themes, word frequencies, key insights, and the emotional tone of the interviews. The findings provide a comprehensive understanding of biometric technology’s current landscape, potential benefits, and challenges in Macedonian banking services. This research provides insights into future strategies for biometric technology adoption, emphasizing its implications for enhancing security, regulations, efficiency, and user experience in financial services.
