The rapid deployment of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies has become the cornerstone of modern smart cities, contributing to improved infrastructure management, public safety, and sustainable development. However, the complexity and limitations of IoT systems make them highly susceptible to cyberattacks. Vulnerabilities in device and communication layers, including hardware sensors, physical interfaces, and firmware update mechanisms, expose these systems to significant security threats. In response to these challenges, an international consortium led by Poznan University of Technology is developing the SiTies platform, supported by the NATO Science for Peace and Security program. The project aims to enhance IoT security in smart cities, with its completion scheduled for 2027. The platform leverages cutting-edge technologies to secure the hardware and communication layers, and this paper discusses the project’s objectives, planned architecture, and key functional modules to be implemented within the system.
