In this paper, the synchronisation of quaternion-valued memristor-based Cohen-Grossberg neural networks (QVMCGNNs) with time-varying delays is discussed for the finite-time based on an event-triggered control strategy. By applying modified 1-norm and quaternion-valued of the sign function, QVMCGNNs enable a holistic analyse with no decomposition steps. In order to reduce the burden of communication, the event-triggered controller is devised. Meanwhile, the triggering requirements and determination standards to ensure the finite-time synchronisation are specified. Further, the estimation method of the synchronisation time is analyzed and the lower bound of event interval is nonzero positive, effectively ruling out the possibility of the Zeno phenomenon. Furthermore, based on the constructed event-triggered mechanism, we also propose a self-triggered scheme, which aims to reduce the need for continuous monitoring and enhance the system efficiency. The scheme is not only theoretically concise, but also fully demonstrates its effectiveness and feasibility in practical applications through examples and simulation verification.
