Internet Data Center Economic Operation Considering UPS Flexibility

With the rapidly development of the Internet Data Center (IDC), how to exploit the IDC flexibility assets and utilize them to achieve the economic operation of IDC is an urgent problem. However, the flexibility of UPS is not considered. A large number of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) assets are becoming idle assets owing to their low utilization rate in IDC. Therefore, in this paper, we firstly propose a UPS individual model considering power backup and energy storage, and it is to fully exploit the flexibility of UPS on the basis of guaranteeing the function of UPS power backup. Then, the optimization model considering the cost of calling UPS flexibility assets and the cost of purchasing power. The Quantum Particle Swarm Optimization (QPSO) algorithm was adopted to solve the model. Finally, the validity of the model and methodology proposed in this paper are verified through simulation and the impact of UPS flexibility capacity on the economic operation is studied.
