Due to its wide accessibility, cloud services aresusceptible to attacks. Data manipulation is aserious threat to data integrity which can occur incloud computing – a relatively new offering underthe umbrella of cloud services. Data can betampered with, and malicious actors could use thisto their advantage. Cloud computing clients invarious application domains want to be assuredthat their data is accurate and trustworthy. Onanother spectrum, blockchain is a tamper-proofdigital ledger that can be used alongside cloudtechnology to provide a tamper-proof cloudcomputing environment. This paper proposes ascheme that combines cloud computing withblockchain that assures data integrity for allhomomorphic encryption schemes. To overcomethe cloud service provider’s (CSP) ultimateauthority over the data, the proposed scheme relieson the Byzantine Fault Tolerance consensus tobuild a distributed network of processing CSPsbased on the client requirements. After certaincomputations performed by all CSPs, theyproduce a master hash value for their database. Toensure immutable data is produced, master hashvalues are preserved in Bitcoin or Ethereumblockchain networks. The master hash values canbe obtained by tracking the block header addressfor verification purposes. A theoretical analysis ofthe overhead costs associated with creating masterhash values for each ofthe cryptocurrencies ispresented. Wefound thatEthereum leads tolowerclient financial costs and better onlineperformance than Bitcoin. We also specify the datasecurity requirements the proposed schemeprovides, the ground-level implementation, andfuture work. The proposed verification scheme isbased on public cryptocurrency as a back-endservice and does not require additional setupactions by the client other than a wallet for thechosen cryptocurrency
