FDS/File description system

Abstract This document describes a powerful file description system (FDS) and the facilities it offers for input and output of files. The types of data structures it can handle are mentioned and an outline description is given of how the files are stored within the computer system. Finally, the procedure required to access the contents of the file is described from the point of view of the user.
