Aregon's Excom 100 communication centre

Robin Williamson · ITNOW · 1984

Abstract The 1983 British Computer Society Award for Applications was made to Aregon International Ltd for its Excom 100 communication centre. Excom 100, developed by Aregon from the Open University’s Cyclops distance teaching system, offers a range of facilities designed to provide access to many videotex and computer based data sources and integrates text with freehand graphics for information interchange, electronic mail and teleconferencing applications. As a multifunction communication centre, Excom 100 is a key element in the newly emerging concept of an Open System, in which users are given access to information unrestricted by terminal protocols and data base design, and can be provided with a range of services based on several external computers.
