The General Theory of Criminalistics in the Era of Digital Technology’s Development: Some Topical Problems

Natalya Valkiriya · Siberian Criminal Process and Criminalistic Readings · 2024

In the modern conditions, the problems of the general theory of criminalistics deserve a closer attention of researchers. The provisions of this branch of science, unlike other branches, have not yet been refined through the incorporation of innovations of science and technology. The author points out the potential of supplementing the existing teachings and theories (or developing new teachings and theories) and linking the research of traditional criminalistic problems with the applications of artificial intelligence. The author also touches upon some debatable issues of widening the list of teachings and theories. It is stressed that the general theory of criminalistics should consider not only the application of digital technologies, but also psycho-technologies that are currently widely used on the internet. Specific examples are presented to argue for the necessity of improving the conceptual and categorical apparatus of criminalistics.
