DIGITAL IDENTITY MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS BUILT WITH MICROSERVICES ARCHITECTURE IMPLEMENTATION FOR MODERNIZING MULTIPLE RETIREMENT PLATFORMS FROM A MERGER

Balamurugan Krishnaswamy Gnanasekaran · 2025

The retirement services industry has witnessed a surge in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activities, creating significant challenges in system integration, particularly for participant authentication across disparate recordkeeping platforms. This paper presents a comprehensive framework for implementing digital identity management solutions using microservices architecture to address these challenges. We examine the specific requirements of retirement platforms during M&A transitions and propose a scalable, secure, and flexible architecture that enables unified participant authentication while preserving data integrity and privacy. Our approach leverages modern authentication protocols, API gateways, and containerization technologies to create a seamless user experience across consolidated systems.Case studies from recent retirement services M&A activities demonstrate the practical implementation and benefits of the proposed framework, including reduced integration time, enhanced security posture, and improved participant satisfaction. The research findings suggest that microservices-based identity management solutions provide significant advantages over traditional monolithic approaches in managing the complexity of postmerger integration in the retirement services sector.
