Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) presents remarkable prospects for education, but its impact on students' thinking processes remains largely unexplored. This research explores the thinking processes of 20 students when programming supported by GAI.Twenty participants recorded hour-long programming sessions with GAI and submitted reflection reports on key interactions and challenges. We developed an AI-augmented thinking framework based on the screen recordings (including chat history with GAI).In reflection reports, students identified prompt skills, programming knowledge, and debugging skills as key factors influencing AI-augmented thinking in programming. This study contributes to the theoretical and practical understanding of students' thinking processes when supported by GAI.
