The Internet of Things (IoT) is the recent advancement in computing environment. IoT is a vast network of interconnected devices that are revolutionizing the way we live, work, and interact with the world. It is a network of physical objects embedded with sensors, software, actuators, and other technologies that allow them to collect and exchange data over the internet. IoT is making its mark across various sectors like smart homes, smart cities, industrial transformation, environmental stewardship, healthcare, etc. The healthcare industry is one of the most exciting frontiers for the Internet of Things (IoT). By embedding sensors and other technologies into medical devices, wearable's, and even the physical infrastructure of hospitals, IoT is revolutionizing the way we deliver and experience care. Some key ways IoT is transforming healthcare are remote patient monitoring, early disease detection, improved medication adherence, enhanced surgery and treatment, and streamlined hospital operations. IoT is becoming a game changer for doctors to assist the patients as early as possible. But the major challenge of IoT in healthcare is data privacy, security, interoperability, and the need for standardization in the collection and sharing of healthcare data. Robust measures are needed to protect sensitive patient data collected by IoT devices. One of the most talked-about areas of study right now, blockchain technology, has several potential uses in the Internet of Things (IoT). Healthcare data are incredibly sensitive containing personal information and medical records vital for patient care. Protecting these data is paramount, and blockchain technology offers several promising solutions, which include enhanced security and transparency, interoperability, decentralization, improved data sharing, and collaboration. This chapter focuses to enhance the functionality of healthcare industry by incorporating blockchain and IoT.
