Smart IoT Based PPE Compilance and Occupancy Monitoring System
International Research Journal of Modernization in Engineering Technology and Science · 2025
In sectors such as construction and manufacturing, adhering to safety protocols is vital to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.Utilizing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including helmets, gloves, and masks, is critical, though compliance is often inconsistent. Moreover, controlling the number of individuals in a specific area is essential to prevent overcrowding and facilitate efficient operations, particularly in the aftermath of the pandemic. This paper introduces an intelligent system that automatically verifies PPE adherence and tracks occupancy through the use of IoT sensors and computer vision technology. The system employs an ESP32-CAM module to ascertain whether workers are donning all necessary PPE, along with Passive Infrared (PIR) sensors to tally the number of individuals in a given location.Information gathered is transmitted in real-time to a ThingsBoard dashboard utilizing the MQTT protocol. The system not only showcases live information but also issues alerts if an individual is lacking the proper equipment or if the number of people in a space surpasses the designated threshold. The integration of AI and IoT contributes to minimizing manual efforts and enhancing safety oversight. This configuration is cost-effective, scalable, and applicable in various workplace environments. The objective is to establish a dependable safety system that is straightforward to implement and aids in mitigating risks by fostering adherence to rules and reducing human error.
