This paper investigates the intricate field of mosaic image generation, specifically the application of dithering algorithms to transform portraits into stunning mosaics. The study delves into the technical, historical, and artistic use of dithering. With the application of efficiently implemented Order Dithering, Closest Color Method, Gradient, and Error Diffusion algorithms, this implementation stands out by being committed to the best trade-off between computation efficiency and visual perfection. The paper explains the complexity of each of the utilized methods, identifying their combined contribution toward maintaining the integrity of the original portrait and transforming it into a mosaic piece of art. In addition, the discussion involves the benefits of using mosaic images for mosaic artists when working with mosaic cubes. The main aim of this research is to create a mosaic generator that can be of help to mosaic artists by generating precise outputs, as defined by MSE and SSIM values close to one and PSNR values greater than 30 dB.
