Individuals with one-handed mobility challenges face many difficulties when interacting with conventional computer input technology. This research proposes a compact keyboard layout to redefine user interaction for one-handed users and aims to evaluate the usability and efficiency of the proposed keyboard. By carefully reviewing existing research, this study formulates a user-centric design approach. Leveraging insights from prior studies, the layout design prioritizes ergonomic comfort and usability for individuals with one-handed disabilities. Through a user study involving 30 participants with one-handed mobility, System Usability Scale (SUS) assessments and administered post-questionnaires were conducted to evaluate the proposed keyboard layout. The findings reveal substantial enhancements in task efficiency compared to traditional keyboards. User feedback emphasizes the usability, functionality, and dependability of the proposed system while pinpointing areas for improving the system’s ergonomic layout. As such, this study shows the potential of the proposed keyboard to revolutionize computer interaction for individuals facing one-handed mobility challenges.
