A new world of automation and connectivity opened endless possibilities using the Internet of Things (IoT) devices. From smart rings to industrial level devices, IoT Devices are everywhere. But with great opportunities, it comes with great security risks also. This thesis proposes strengthening overall device security by finding core problems and limitations and implementing a strong security layer within an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) framework to prevent Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.Total three elements are included to build a dedicated security layer to strengthen defenses especially against DDoS attacks. The security layer has been placed between the Middleware Layer and Communication layer to increase its effectiveness. The future work involves applying all the security mechanisms in a real world device to demonstrate the effectiveness of the security layer and upgrade the layer according to the performance. This research contributes to the advancement of IoT security practices, ideas to safeguard critical information and data against cybercriminals. CCS Concepts• Security and privacy → Denial-of-service attacks.
