ABSTRACT With the increase in different handheld devices, there has been tremendous growth in network traffic resulting in need of newer topologies for network traffic management. The paper proposes a novel network topology design based on combination of hexagonal and pentagonal structures together. We have introduced the Hex‐Penta network, a scalable and efficient architecture that offers several potential advantages over traditional network topologies. The proposed novel topology is static and irregular interconnection initialize with the 11 nodes. There are 11 nodes in Level 1, 59 nodes at Level 2, 149 nodes in Level 3, and so on. Addition of new nodes in the Hex‐Penta cell affects networks performance. There are various topological characteristics such as the diameter of the network, degree of nodes, and bisection width of this interconnection. In this paper, we also compare the performance of Hex‐Penta cell with the other topologies such as hypercube, butterfly, binary tree, and shuffle exchange interconnections. The proposed topology works well in parallel computing as well as in grid computing as it requires fewer nodes information as compared with other topologies to communicate among the various nodes.
