An Improved Anti-Collision Algorithm Suitable for Capture Effect

Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology has widely been used in the last few years. Many protocols were proposed to solve the collision problems with high identification efficiency and acceptable time delay. Nevertheless, most of these protocols assumed that the reader can decode the tag's signal only when there was one tag responding to the reader request once each time. Hence, they ignored the phenomenon of the capture effect, which results in identifying the tag with the strong signal while multiple tags simultaneously respond. As a result, some tags with the weak signal will not be identified under the capture effect. Capture effect will reduce the efficiency of multi tag identification, especially when the total number of tag population is small. This article proposes an improved DDS algorithm (Reduced Dynamic Disperse and Shrink, RDDS), which mainly reduces the forward data transmission from the reader to the tag by optimizing the reader instructions, and improves the identification efficiency of the algorithm by reconnecting weak tags.
