S. B. Mahalakshmi, D.Lita Pansy, V.M Thejashree · 2025

In the recent years, phishing has emerged as the greatest cyber threat to billions of people. Most threats are transmitted through e-mail, which malware cannot identify. The spam is installed and used on mail servers, e-mail servers, firewalls, and mail transfer servers, spam filters are able to trace spams in e-mails. Examples of old techniques that are ineffective and incapable of handling threats risen in the contemporary world include blocklists and real time blackhole listing. The newest advanced techniques in machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) keep advancing based on the limitations introduced by these traditional techniques. The merits and demerits of the current techniques are discussed by analyzing them. This is helpful for the identification of the variety of DL and ML and techniques that is integrated as Adaptive Contextual Phishing Detection (ACPD) may be applied for email spam detection. In addition, the review can evaluate efficiency and point out research gaps. Looking into these factors will lead to enhance an efficient anti-phishing email detection system.
