Cybersecurity and Privacy Perspectives on the Green Internet of Vehicles

Muhammad Ahsan Qureshi, Lubna Zafar, Reema Shaheen · 2025

The Internet of Vehicles (IoV) is the future of transport technologies through the convergence of connected vehicles, infrastructure, and devices. Although IoV is expanding fast, heterogeneous and poses multiple security threats that may undermine the safety, privacy, and integrity of critical infrastructure. Moreover, modern networks must be designed to reduce harmful environmental effects like emissions, energy consumption, and material usage. This chapter highlights the importance of cybersecurity issues related to IoV systems. It points out cyber threats to IoV and addresses the deployment of energy-efficient security solutions that trade between sustainability and performance. The chapter discusses the implementation of AI, lightweight cryptography, digital forensics and blockchain technologies for solving these issues without compromising the security, sustainability, and resilience of IoV systems. This chapter is of great value and insight to policymakers, researchers, and practitioners focused on the evolution of IoV systems from green and security perspectives.
