The integration of internet of things (IoT) devices and cyber-physical systems (CPSs) into contemporary life has assumed a critical role. As IoT devices are deployed and utilized in nearly every economic sector, if not all of them, they have become an integral part of our daily lives. Security breaches and system malfunctions in critical IoT applications, such as preventative sensing and monitoring in manufacturing facilities and thermostats utilized in industrial control systems, can potentially lead to severe consequences, including loss of life. Generally, the IoT security will include the protection of IoT devices by means of securing the components, response to threats, monitoring of components, updating of firmware, managing the access rights, authentication and authorization, and remedial measures when threats have been identified. As the security threats are there in every IoT device ranging from smart watches to smart grids, smart surveillance systems, and smart home security systems etc., it is essential to protect them by means of proper mechanisms so that this won’t affect the performance and reliability of the system.
