The Security of Agricultural IoT in Developing Countries
Blessing Winifred Odume · Journal of Next-Generation Research 5 0 · 2025
This study examines the security challenges of farming the Internet of Things (IoT) in developing countries. To uncover the security vulnerabilities associated with agricultural IoT deployments, this study interviewed 100 participants, including farmers, agricultural technologists, and policymakers. These findings suggest IoT security in the agriculture sector could be improved by identifying key security threats, increasing awareness levels, and proposing mitigation measures. In addition, the study outlines a comprehensive design framework designed to mitigate these risks, including device security, data protection, network security, and policy development. According to the findings, various gaps exist in awareness, infrastructure, and cybersecurity practices. A multilayered security approach is recommended to ensure IoT systems in agriculture are viable and secure long-term, thereby supporting sustainable agricultural development.
