The goal of the Fifth Generation of Communication Networks, often known as 5G, is to deliver a greater breadth of services than was possible with earlier generations of communication networks. This will make it possible to use 5G to a larger variety of scenarios and applications. As the application domain has developed, there has also been a rise in the amount of hacker activity due to the increasing customer usage. This chain of events underlines the necessity of adopting robust security mechanisms that really operate to guarantee that users are within an environment that is safe and secure. This article offers an unbiased examination of the security problems associated with 5G as well as the solutions that are now in place and those that are in the planning stages to address these problems in order to protect the ecosystem associated with 5G. We examine the vulnerabilities, threats, security solutions, obstacles, gaps, and open research areas that are relevant to each layer of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model while classifying security technologies and using the OSI model as a framework for our discussion. We investigate each of the seven levels that make up the OSI model, but the discoveries that we make at layer one, the physical layer, are the most interesting. In practice, there are additional potential for attacks such as data forgery and eavesdropping on the physical layer, which is the layer that stands between the base stations and the device that the consumers are using. However, not even the OSI layer that provides the least amount of protection can provide sufficient security by itself. Due to the fact that each layer of the 5G infrastructure is equipped with its own unique technology, it is imperative that they collaborate closely in order to guarantee the safety and dependability of 5G communications.
