As we all know management of solid waste has become the biggest issue these days in both rural as well as urban areas. This has become not only societal issue even environmental issue also. This research study investigates the existing potential AI applications which are already used in the process of solid waste management systems. To improve the ability of waste segregation, enhance collection efficiency, and recycling processes in predictive maintenance of waste management are assessed by the AI technologies such as machine learning, computer vision and IOT-enabled data analytics. This study also includes the future issues and challenges for the use of AI in waste management process. The research study adopts mixed research methods. In this study we go in the depth of a relevant literature review study, research papers of Scopus based journals and conferences papers to identify the gaps in the current practices and explore the existing AI applications in driving the waste management solutions. This study will provide a valuable insight about the contribution of AI in creating more sustainable waste management practices and provides few of recommendations for the future improvements.
