This research work presents a novel approach to palm vein biometrics, emphasizing the need for research into the effects of varying external conditions on image acquisition. Biometrics relies on individual physiological traits, and palm vein authentication, a form of vascular biometrics, is highlighted for its potential resilience to surface contaminants and skin conditions. The study identifies gaps in existing research, particularly regarding the impact of environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and surface contaminants on palm vein recognition systems. A comprehensive system is developed to capture palm vein images under diverse conditions, including varying temperatures, the presence of dust, and the application of sanitizing gels. The system integrates infrared imaging technology with a tailored mechanical setup and sophisticated data handling processes, ensuring high-quality image acquisition while maintaining user privacy. Initial findings suggest that external parameters significantly influence recognition performance, underscoring the importance of collecting a diverse database to further explore these effects. Future work will focus on expanding the database and refining the system for enhanced biometric reliability.
