Integrating Blockchain in Indian Land Recording and Land Registration System

Blockchain has enormous potential and no boundaries. Blockchain technology is an open, immutable, distributed ledger without any central authority and can be a substitute to the traditional transaction system where we keep documents like records, contracts etc. Total number of land digitization completed in India 94.53%. Though Indian land record management system is unable to prevent various types of forgery and land related legal disputes. So, real landowners are suffering from various kinds of land litigation, which raises doubt regarding the existing system’s effectiveness, authenticity and reliability. This causes the government’s judicial department to be a huge waste of time and money. Underlying technology of cryptocurrency, Blockchain has potential to deal with this kind of problems and assures Record of Rights (ROR) obtaining a smart web-application enabled transparent tamper-proof, collaborative, trustworthy, secure, peer-to-peer, reliable, scalable and automated land recording and land registration system’s e-Governance. In this paper we aim to give insight on contemporary systems and how Blockchain-based systemization achieves significant improvement in land registration and land recording systems.
