Seong-Hoon Jung, Geun-Hyeon Kim · 2025
This study aims to analyze the impact of Chinese e-commerce platforms (e.g., Alibaba, Temu, Shein) on the domestic logistics environment and propose strategic measures to enhance the competitiveness of Korea’s logistics industry. To achieve this goal, a comparative analysis was conducted on the logistics environment before and after the expansion of these platforms. The study collected data from Naver News articles via web crawling, gathering a total of 24,360 articles from January 2021 to April 2024. Subsequently, the data underwent cleaning and in-depth analysis using various text mining techniques, including keyword frequency analysis, N-gram analysis, LDA topic modeling, and CONCOR analysis. Before the expansion of Chinese e-commerce platforms, the focus was primarily on the competitiveness of domestic logistics companies (e.g., CJ Logistics, Coupang) and strategies for digital transformation and globalization. After the expansion, however, the entry of Chinese platforms (e.g., Alibaba, Temu) brought intense competitive pressures to the domestic logistics market due to their low-cost products and fast delivery services. Additionally, the global networks and technological innovations of these platforms were identified as key drivers of their market share expansion. This study provides an empirical analysis of logistics environment changes using news data and highlights the successful globalization strategies of Chinese platforms as valuable lessons for domestic logistics companies. Korean logistics firms should strengthen their competitiveness through digital technologies and global networks. Moreover, the government should support this transformation with policy initiatives and regulatory frameworks to ensure a fair and competitive market environment.
