Information security awareness in higher education

The implementation of technological innovation in higher education not only offers unprecedented opportunities but also exposes the sector to constantly evolving cybersecurity threats. Therefore, the way security is built should also evolve. This chapter analyzes reports, studies, and statistics that expose the seriousness of cyberattacks directed at educational institutions which, in recent years, have been increasing. As well as the current state of cybersecurity awareness and training within education, exploring global studies, and revealing inadequate preparation in the industry. As a solution and contribution to reducing this gap, personalized awareness-raising and training initiatives are proposed that meet the unique needs of the sector and are outlined within a specific framework for the sector. This emphasizes a proactive approach to cybersecurity education, allowing users to identify and counter potential threats.
