Integrating Artificial Intelligence and IoT for Enhanced Waste Management Systems
Zhenyu Zhu · 2024
The increasing urbanization and expansion of city landscapes are significantly contributing to a rise in municipal solid waste production. This surge presents challenges such as environmental pollution and the efficiency of waste disposal systems. This paper explores the integration of Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and 5G technologies in revolutionizing waste management. By harnessing image recognition technology, advanced algorithms, and sensor technology, intelligent waste management systems can notably enhance the efficiency of recycling processes and reduce labor requirements. These digital solutions offer real-time, professional, and scientific management, substantially minimizing the likelihood of errors. The transition to intelligent waste management is not just a trend but a necessity to address the growing waste management challenges effectively. Furthermore, the paper discusses current limitations in these systems and offers recommendations for their improvement to better meet the needs of modern urban environments. This exploration highlights the potential and critical need for advanced technological solutions in managing municipal waste.
