Waste generation is a challenge for both developed and developing countries. Developing countries face economic and technological constraints in implementing smart city development measures. This study proposes a novel smart waste management solution that is powered by solar energy and can be implemented in developing countries as well as developed countries. The solution presents an IoT-enabled smart trash bin that can be remotely monitored to track its fill levels. This information is used to optimize the collection routes of waste trucks, reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The solar-powered design of the smart trash bins makes them more sustainable and environmentally friendly. The smart trash bins are also equipped with a mechanism to automatically open the lid when waste is detected, providing a contactless, hygienic method of waste collection. Smart dustbins can help to reduce the spread of diseases caused by contact with waste by minimizing human contact with trash bins. Smart waste management systems can lead to a cleaner, healthier environment and improved quality of life for people living in the area. By preventing overflowing bins and providing real-time monitoring of waste levels, smart dustbins can reduce the amount of litter on the streets and in public areas. The real-time monitoring of the trash level can help in optimizing the waste collection process with timely waste collection.
