The paper considers the possibility of creating an energy-efficient mesh network for video monitoring of hard-to-reach areas, such as forests, tunnels and mountainous areas, in order to prevent forest fires. The main focus is on the use of decentralized MANET networks, which do not require infrastructure and have a low deployment cost. The paper proposes a prototype of a hardware and software system based on ESP8266 microcontrollers, using the painlessMesh library to transmit images between end nodes. Tests were carried out to determine the network throughput and optimal data transmission parameters depending on the required image quality and acceptable losses.
