Blockchain in Healthcare: Pioneering Transformative Approaches

Kritika Sharma, Naveen Kumar, Rajesh Kumar Kaushal · 2024

Unique features of blockchain technology have gained a lot of attention in the past few years. Existing centralized system has several issues like data security, information breach and unauthorized access. To solve these issues blockchain technology proved to be a potential solution because of its properties such as decentralization, immutability, transparency and security. Integration of blockchain has shown potential transformation in different sectors. The objective of this study is to understand the present state of blockchain in the healthcare sector and to explore the future scope of this evolutionary technology. The goals are achieved by collecting relevant studies related to blockchain and healthcare. PRISMA and bibliometric analysis is conducted on the Scopus dataset for the year 2016 to 2024. Analysis reveals healthcare and IoT as the prevailing sectors, notably in remote patient monitoring. For continuous monitoring, remote patient monitoring enables patients to share their private vital data from anywhere with the help of wired/wireless body area network. Integration of blockchain with wireless body area networks transform centralized systems into patient centric systems and eliminates the drawbacks of traditional systems. Present state of blockchain technology in healthcare sectors described in this study.
