State-of-the-Art Power Converters for Nanogrid Architecture

Ankit Srivastava, Dashrath Nishad, Rinki Maurya, Ashutosh Kumar Singh · 2024

The world is becoming increasingly aware of our impact on the environment. At the same time, many remote areas still lack access to reliable electricity. This has led to a major boost in research on generating clean energy in a distributed manner, rather than relying solely on large power plants. Nano-grids have become vital in today's decentralized power systems, providing exceptional reliability, efficiency, and sustainability. Power electronics converters are essential for controlling the flow of electricity among various sources, storage systems, and loads in nano-grid architecture. This paper reviews the latest power converters used in nano-grid architectures. It covers the latest advancements in power converter design, focusing on DC-DC and AC-DC converters, multiport and hybrid converters, and their roles in optimizing nano-grid performance.
