Artificial Intelligence (AI) provides unprecedented opportunities to improve healthcare outcomes on a large scale. This has tremendous implications for emerging economies, where the shortage of skilled personnel and hospital overcrowding are daily occurrences. This study investigates the determinants of Generation Z’s intention to adopt medical AI in an emerging economy. The extended VAB framework was employed along with a mixed-method approach consisting of focus groups and a consumer survey. The findings showed that medical AI adoption intention was determined by modern self and traditional self. Specifically, while traditional self significantly influenced adoption intention via both attitude and initial trust, modern self demonstrated a positive impact on intention only via initial trust. The findings are discussed, and the implications are provided.
