In the era of widespread Internet of Things (IoT) applications, particularly within transportation, addressing delay and security concerns is critical. This paper investigates two prominent IoT server technologies—EdgeX Foundry and IoT Stack—evaluating their performance in connected vehicle environments. We conducted extensive benchmarking to measure processing delays, showing that EdgeX Foundry reduced average delay by 25% compared to the IoT Stack approach under identical conditions. The integration of 5G/EdgeX Foundry decreased the latency around 40%, which its reached to 10 milliseconds and less. This is required for realtime tracking and monitoring of vehicles. The results thats obtained show that 5G/EdgeX Foundry significantly enhances system utilization, providing an encrypted, extensible approachs ideal for mobility and other dependent on latency IoT operations.
