Soumya Sankar Ghosh · 2025

In this paper, we examine opportunities for fostering education in rural India enabled through the use of consumer technology: a detailed case study on mobile learning efforts. Access to traditional education resources is not easy in the rural community and thus, it becomes hard to achieve quality education. Fortunately, mobile learning operations made possible by the ubiquity of smartphones offer one solution to this increasing divide. It focuses on deployment of the mobile-based learning platforms in a rural area and studies them concerning their impact on academic performance, student engagement, and educational empowerment. The study also indicates that mobile learning effectively improves access to educational resources, learning results, and community participation in education. In addition to this, the report notes some hurdles like digital illiteracy and infrastructure constraints which must be tackled for a wider uptake. Finally, the paper suggests policy and educational considerations for primary practitioners to ensure that mobile learning technologies integrated into rural education will be in a position that can provide sustainability.
