As technology keeps advancing faster than the abilities of mankind to keep up, it is almost impossible for traditional teaching methods to maintain themselves while teaching students the things they need for the outside world. A nice overview is given in this paper regarding the way fun little challenges called Capture the Flag (CTF) can actually make a difference in teaching cybersecurity. Unlike reading books, these challenges put you right in the action and teach you how to solve problems like a real cyber professional. We, therefore, look closely at the way these challenges are designed, used, and how effective they turn out to be in teaching cybersecurity. We find out that these challenges are not just fun but really help people learn and remember important stuff. In addition, we see that they are used in classrooms and job training right up to big competitions. This paper closes with closer examination of how these challenges help people think and solve better while staying safe online. The bottom line is that these challenges are more than just fun and are of crucial importance for teaching the cybersecurity skills that everyone needs in today's digital world.
