Chapter Overview This chapter examines the future of AI policy and laws in the 2020s. Specifically, the chapter discusses the U.S. and E.U. approach to regulatory development, and the issues that such regulations play within geopolitical dominance in the AI race. The chapter goes on to analyze some of the competitive issues that AI laws create in terms of marketplace dominance of AI with a discussion of the U.S.-China AI competition. From this evaluation, the challenges of creating a globalized AI standard are presented along with suggestions for how communicators can create AI ethical guidelines that benefit industry, the public, and the profession.
