Shaharyar Alam Ansari, Divya Pandey, Naina Yadav, Aasim Zafar · 2025

Video summarization technologies select the most informative parts of the video content in an effort to provide a concise and comprehensive description. Many techniques have been developed over the past few decades, and the state of the art currently consists of techniques based on contemporary deep neural network designs. This study aims to examine fundamental techniques for video summarization, why they are relevant in the current situation and the latest techniques that have been introduced in this area in recent years. This paper focuses on current developments in the field and provides a detailed overview of available deep-learning techniques for general video summarization. Following that, we discuss protocols for objectively evaluating video summarization algorithms, as well as a comparison of the performance of numerous deep-learning-based systems. We make recommendations for further research based on a comparison of various outcomes, as well as documented considerations regarding the quantity of annotated data and the suitability of appraisal techniques.
