An enhanced strategy for energy-efficient cloud computing environment through VM consolidation

Ambika Gupta, Suyel Namasudra, Prabhat Kumar · 2025

Cloud Computing has revolutionized the IT Landscape by providing scalable, on demand resource access. However, there are now serious energy usage and environmental problems as a result of the data centers’ exponential growth to serve cloud services. Techniques for consolidating virtual machines (VMs) have become a viable way to maximize resource utilization and reduce energy consumption in cloud environments. This paper presents an improved method for cloud computing that saves energy by consolidating virtual machines. By integrating advanced algorithms for workload prediction, VM placement, and migration decision-making, the suggested method improves on the methods now in use for VM consolidation. Cloud infrastructure models and real-world workload traces are used in large-scale simulations to assess the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The results show a considerable improvement in energy efficiency, resource utilization, and overall system performance when compared to conventional consolidation techniques.
