Lessening Frequent Flyer Student Returns and Student Discipline Referrals

Linda S. Metcalf · 2025

This chapter helps administrators to recognize the power of student/teacher relationships. In many schools, the administrator sees students referred by teachers individually and comes up with a possible solution or consequence. However, when the teacher is left out of the conversation, this can easily negate the administrator&s;s work with the student and result in more non-compliance. This chapter includes a conversation template for administrators to use with teachers and students to rebuild a relationship and connection between the two of them. Case scenarios are provided as a means of understanding the power behind meeting with the system instead of just an individual person. Additionally, a mentor program is introduced as a means of helping students to integrate into a school system where they are valued, thereby lowering the chances of reoccurring mishaps.
